Most TOMALES BAY visitors travel north and south using coastal Highway 1 or the central artery, Highway 101. Highway 1 is for the adventurous. It is narrow and winding with sharp curves, steep grades, and gorgeous views - from the Pacific Ocean to farmhouses, ranches and cows. From Highway 101 in Mill Valley, it wraps around Mount Tamalpais and passes by the rural towns of Muir Beach, Stinson Beach, Bolinas, Olema, Point Reyes Station, Marshall, Tomales, and Dillon Beach. It eventually meets Highway 101 again in Mendocino County. Highway 101 is the north-south artery from the Golden Gate Bridge to Novato at the Marin-Sonoma County line. It intersects with Highway 1 at the southern end of Marin and Highway 37 heading north.
Sir Francis Drake, the longest east-west artery in Marin County, extends from Interstate 580 (Richmond-San Rafael Bridge) to the Point Reyes Lighthouse. Towns along the way include Greenbrae, Kentfield, Ross, San Anselmo, Fairfax, Woodacre, Lagunitas, Forest Knolls, Olema-where the road intersects with Highway 1-Point Reyes Station, and Inverness. An alternative exit for Sir Francis Drake off Highway 101 is the College of Marin exit. Gift
